There are a lot of strong, healthy churches that are a part of USMB. There are some churches that are holding their own, not growing necessarily, but not declining either. And we do have a few that are struggling, especially in some of our more rural areas. But, we are all in this together—working hard to do what God has called us to do. It's work that makes a difference in the lives of people. And as Mennonite Brethren, our churches provide positive, godly enrichment in the lives of thousands of people all across America. Can we do more and can we do it better? We think so. After all God isn't static in His dealings with people. We have tremendous potential to grow and to learn how to more effectively minister in this tough culture.
If your church is healthy and strong, there is still a lot that USMB offers your church, staff and volunteers. If your church needs a shot in the arm, we can provide that too. If your church is struggling, there are things in place to help you. As well, our district leaders are doing a lot to assist churches in their respective districts—we're working together at building healthy churches.
We firmly believe the local church can and should have an effective ministry for reaching the lost and transforming lives in our communities. The national church health/renewal initiative strives to assist our churches in enhancing that capacity and for gaining future ministry health and vision.
Following are the components of our LEAD church health program:
CHAT — Church Health Surveys with consulation by a trained consultant. Need a picture of your church's current health? This is a good first step.
LEAD Labs — Short, one to two hour leadership training seminars focusing on church growth for elder boards/leadership teams.
LEAD Coaching — A network of certified coaches paired to pastors/leaders for an agreed upon term. This is life-on-life coaching for personal growth and life enhancement. It's been said, "Every pastor would benefit from having a trained life-on-life coach." Read more.
LEAD One – Regional one-day leadership training events providing key leadership ideas for pastors, elders and ministry leaders - tools for the leader's "tool chest." As church teams learn together, many new ideas can be readily incorporated into the life of the church.
LEAD Cohorts – Online meeting place for small groups of MB Pastors and/or leaders, or anyone interested in learning more about a specific topic. LEAD Cohorts are free to all participants with the exception of curriculum expenses, if recommended.
LEAD Consults — More extensive consultations for developing long-term ministry vision and direction. Board retreats, ministry team workshops, evaluations, advice.
