Newest USMB church plant will have multicultural, multigenerational focus
Mission USA News
Avenue Church, Aurora, Colorado, officially launched Feb. 12, 2017. This newest USMB church plant is the result of five years of dreaming and planning with mother church Ethiopian Evangelical Church of Denver (EECD), Aurora, Mission USA and the Southern District Conference (SDC).
The launch service was attended by about 175 adults as well as 10 kids in children’s ministry.
“Our vision is to be a multicultural, multigenerational, Spirit-filled church,” says church planter David Yirdaw. He notes that when he started as the youth pastor at EECD in 2012, the congregation had 20 high school students and a few young adult volunteers. “Everyone was Ethiopian and young. It was our dream to see a church that reflected heaven in culture, age and atmosphere.”
Yirdaw says that vision guided the planning process and was reflected on launch day. “God was faithful to the vision. We had all ages and ethnicities represented in our church and the presence of the Holy Spirit. God is, and will always be, faithful to the vision of a church that reflects heaven.”
Tim Sullivan, SDC district minister, says he and his wife, Donna, felt welcome as guests at the launch. “It's encouraging to see a young generation of believers who are passionate about their faith and who are stepping up to share the good news of the gospel with their generation.”
He adds, “We are praying that God will continue to bless and grow Avenue Denver as they change the culture of Denver.”
